Podiatry

Care that keeps you on your feet

Our Podiatrists look after your feet and lower limbs, from diabetic foot care and orthotics to everyday nail and skin care, helping you stay comfortable, mobile and independent.

We bulk bill Podiatry with a GP Medicare referral

If your GP refers you under a Chronic Condition Management Plan, standard appointments at our Darra clinic are bulk billed. No gap fee, nothing to pay on the day.

What a podiatrist actually does

Feet carry the whole load, and they tend to get ignored until something hurts. A podiatrist assesses the structure of the foot and lower limb, how it moves under load, the condition of the skin and nails, and the circulation and sensation that keep it all healthy.

A lot of what we do is unglamorous and quietly important. Clearing callus that is building toward an ulcer. Cutting nails that a person can no longer safely reach. Checking pulses and sensation in someone with diabetes before a small problem becomes a serious one. None of it makes for exciting reading, and all of it keeps people walking.

The rest is problem solving. Working out why a heel hurts every morning, why one shoe wears through faster than the other, or why someone has started shortening their stride without noticing. Often the foot is where the symptom shows up and the cause sits further up the chain.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask us most before booking a podiatry appointment.

Do I need a referral to see a podiatrist?

No. You can book directly as a private client. A GP referral under a Chronic Condition Management Plan is only needed if you want the appointment bulk billed.

How often should I have my feet checked?

It depends on your risk. People with diabetes, poor circulation, reduced sensation or a history of ulceration usually need regular reviews. For most other people it is when something changes or starts hurting.

I have diabetes. Why does foot care matter so much?

Diabetes can reduce both circulation and sensation, which means an injury can go unnoticed and heal slowly. Regular checks catch the small problems early, and that is when they are easy to deal with.

Can you cut nails that I cannot reach anymore?

Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons people see us. Reduced flexibility, reduced vision, thickened nails or blood thinners all make home nail care unsafe. There is nothing minor about it.

Do you make custom orthotics?

We assess whether orthotic therapy is appropriate and prescribe accordingly. Depending on the assessment that may be a prefabricated device or a custom one, and sometimes the answer is a change of footwear rather than an orthotic at all.

Will treatment hurt?

Most routine podiatry is comfortable. Some treatments, like clearing a painful corn or an ingrown nail, give immediate relief. Where a procedure needs local anaesthetic we will explain it fully before starting.

Do you come to the house?

Yes. We see clients at our Darra clinic and travel across Brisbane for home and residential aged care visits. Note that bulk billing applies to clinic appointments only.
